What Doctors Know is a new national healthcare publication available in print as well as on the new NOOK by Barnes & Noble. Eye Consultants of Texas founder Phillips Kirk Labor, MD is now a regular contributing writer, along with several respected physicians across the U.S.

What Doctors Know is a collective of articles written by experienced physicians. The publication’s goal is to become the premier source for new and practical information across all medical specialties. From a bigger picture perspective, the hope is to better educate patients to help improve their health and overall wellbeing.

Dr. Labor’s first article appeared in the November 2011 issue. Titled, “Am I Too Old For LASIK,” it focuses on the options patients over age 40 have if they aren’t considered a LASIK candidate. The article discusses how premium lens implants, most commonly used in cataract surgery, can be an effective option. Not only can they correct the normal need for reading glasses after 40, these lenses can actually prevent cataracts later in life.

An article focused on how LASIK has changed will appear in the December issue, with subsequent articles planned on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Dr. Labor has become a highly-respected Dallas/Fort Worth eye surgeon, and is regarded internationally for his LASIK expertise. He was the first in the metroplex to use the new ORange®, the world’s first technology which assesses a cataract patient’s vision quality during surgery. In addition, he is considered one of the top Crystalens surgeons in the world based his expertise and experience implanting this unique premium lens.

“I’m always proud to share any advice and knowledge with my patients locally. I’m especially proud to be able to do this on a national scale,” Dr. Labor said. To learn more about What Doctors Know, visit www.whatdoctorsknow.com.
